The Landlord Business
in a Nutshell

Are you considering buying rental property and entering the landlord business? If you are, then congratulations, you are not alone! It has led many people down the path to financial independence.

While owning rental property and being a landlord can be a very profitable and rewarding experience, it does, however, come with a price tag.

So, if anyone has ever told you that becoming a landlord is an "easy road to riches", don't walk away from that person's advice, run!

The truth is, being a successful landlord in the real world takes a little more effort than just going to the bank each month to deposit rent checks. And, just like other types of businesses, there are certain risks that must be taken to reap the rewards of the landlord business.

So, what are the risks and rewards associated with being a landlord and how much work is required to be successful in the business?

The risks of being a landlord can range anywhere from being financially liable for a tenant's injuries suffered on the property to losing your investment (and credit) as a result of bank foreclosure.

On the other hand, the rewards of being a landlord include both financial independence and personal satisfaction. If you are dedicated in operating your landlord business and apply yourself, then long-term financial success will follow. In addition, you'll feel a strong sense of personal satisfaction and accomplishment by providing necessary housing for good tenants (your customers). That reward is substantial.

How much work is involved with becoming a landlord? To get an idea, the work involved with being a landlord can range anywhere from interviewing prospective tenants on a weekend to repairing a hot water heater for a tenant on a cold winter night. It really does take some motivation and work to achieve success as a landlord. But then again, anything that’s worth achieving in life requires work and sacrifice, right? Don' t let anyone tell you otherwise.

In addition, there is a definite level of commitment that is needed for becoming a landlord that is required to achieve success. A "long-term" approach and commitment to this business is what will deliver the best results for you. Your degree of success as a landlord will greatly depend on your level of commitment to the business.
