The Traits of All Good Tenants

As a landlord, have you ever taken the time to think about the common traits of all good tenants? After all is said and done, if you were to take a profile on all of your best tenants, both past and present, you'll find that they all possess the same basic characteristics. There is a definite pattern of common attributes that all good tenants have, and it's as clear as the light of day.

The Common Traits of Good Tenants

So, what are these characteristics that make them good (or even great) tenants? There are three main attributes, and they form the foundation of what I call "The Triangle of Success". They are…

1. Respect

2. Honesty, and

3. The ability to pay their rent.

Just as a chain is "only as strong as its weakest link", the same holds true with the three characteristics of the triangle of success. If any one of these traits in a tenant is missing or is weak, then the landlord-tenant relationship will also be weak. It really is a simple formula that will ultimately set the course for the success of your landlord business.

For information on how to screen applicants for the traits of good tenants, please visit The Landlord's Library book collection. It contains all the practical, high-value information you'll need on the complete subject of residential landlording.
